The Hill Country Impalas Car Club is a chapter of the worldwide Impalas Car Club dedicated to preserving lowrider tradition, family values, and Chicano culture in the San Antonio and Texas Hill Country area. Our story is rooted in decades of car club history and a passion for the iconic Chevrolet Impala that brings our community together.

Our Roots in Lowrider Tradition

The Impalas Car Club traces its origin to the summer of 1990 in Northern California, when a small group of friends with Chevy Impalas decided to build a club around their favorite classic car. From day one, the rule was simple: every member must own an Impala. What began as a tight-knit crew quickly grew into a movement. Over the decades, the club expanded across California, the nation, and eventually the world, while staying true to its purpose. By the early 2010s, the Impalas Car Club had dozens of chapters from coast to coast, including here in Texas. Today it is recognized worldwide, united by a common love for the Chevrolet Impala and the culture it represents.

Our Hill Country Chapter carries this legacy in the heart of Texas. San Antonio’s lowrider scene has deep roots. By the 1970s, lowriders were cruising from El Paso to San Antonio, putting Texas on the national map for car club culture. Now we honor that history by bringing the Impalas Car Club’s spirit to San Antonio and Hill Country towns like Boerne, New Braunfels, Fredericksburg, Kerrville, and Marble Falls.

Low and Slow: Chicano Culture and the Impala Legacy

Lowrider culture is more than modifying cars. It is a cultural expression born from Chicano communities. Beginning in the 1940s and 1950s, Mexican American youth across the Southwest and Texas customized their cars to cruise low and slow as a statement of identity. The Chevrolet Impala quickly became the favorite canvas for this lifestyle. To this day, a 1964 Impala gliding on hydraulics is an iconic image of Chicano pride around the world.

Each lowrider tells a story. From candy-colored paint jobs to murals honoring family and heritage, Impalas are moving works of art. Building and cruising these cars is about family, self-expression, and respect. In San Antonio, you hear it in the oldies or Tejano music coming from the rides, you see it in the chrome that shines under the streetlights, and you feel it when the community gathers to watch a lineup roll by.

Lowriding is a homegrown tradition of Mexican American culture. Generations of families in San Antonio and the Hill Country carry it forward, passing down techniques, pride, and stories through their Impalas.

Family, Tradition, and Community Values

Being part of the Impalas Car Club is about belonging to a family. Members support each other, share knowledge, and celebrate milestones together. Whether six cars or sixty cars roll into an event, the club moves as one family.

The Impalas name stands on five values that guide every chapter:

  • Loyalty: Standing by the Impalas name and culture.

  • Brotherhood: Treating members as family and building lifelong friendships.

  • Tradition: Keeping lowrider heritage alive through cars, cruising, and culture.

  • Family: Bringing spouses, kids, and relatives into the experience.

  • Commitment: Dedication to cars, community, and each other.

These values make the club strong, welcoming, and respected. They also guide us in giving back to the community. From toy drives and school supply fundraisers to cultural events, the Hill Country Impalas show that lowrider culture is about pride and positivity.

The Hill Country Chapter: Impalas in San Antonio

San Antonio and the Hill Country are the perfect backdrop for the Impalas legacy. Every weekend, you might find our rides lined up at a cookout, cruising down Southwest Military Drive, or rolling through the streets of Fredericksburg or Kerrville. Our members come from across the region, united by their passion for Impalas and Chicano culture.

The Hill Country Chapter represents both the history and future of lowriding in Texas. We educate younger enthusiasts, preserve traditions, and keep familia at the center of everything we do. When we cruise, we are not just showing off our cars. We are celebrating heritage, artistry, and unity.

The Hill Country Impalas Car Club is proud to continue this story in San Antonio and across the Hill Country. It is a story of legacy, culture, family, and values coming together on four wheels. And as we like to say: Impalas forever, forever Impalas.
